Slack Nonprofit Discount & Fiscally Sponsored Organizations (FSOs)

Accessing Slack for nonprofits as a standalone 501c3 and fiscally sponsored organization.

Fiscally Sponsored Organizations (FSOs) under NOPI
Model A, C/C+ without nonprofit status

Because Slack validates nonprofit eligibility through TechSoup, and TechSoup restricts validation accounts to legally registered 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsors, individual FSOs cannot obtain a standalone Slack for Nonprofits plan under NOPI’s EIN.

  • Dedicated Workspace Options: NOPI cannot issue separate TechSoup validations for individual standalone workspaces due to platform account limits. Instead, NOPI can create a designated, private Slack workspace (or private channel environment) for your FSO under our primary organization setup.
  • Privacy & Access: Your designated space is completely private to your FSO team. Only members explicitly added by your admins can view or access your conversations, files, and channels.
  • Offboarding & Data Transfer: If your fiscal sponsorship with NOPI ends, we will work with you to export workspace data or transfer management of the space to your new legal entity, where technically and policy-permitted by Slack.

Organizations with 501c3 Status
Model F, C/C+ with nonprofit status

If your organization holds direct 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status with the IRS, you can apply directly for the Slack for Nonprofits discount.

  • Discount Benefits: Workspaces with 250 or fewer members receive a 100% free upgrade to the Pro plan. Workspaces over 250 members receive an 85% discount on Pro or Business+ plans.
  • Application Steps:
        1. Set up a free workspace on Slack.
        2. Have a Workspace Owner submit the Slack for Nonprofits Application
using your legal organization name, website, and Employer Identification Number (EIN).
        3. Verification is handled through TechSoup. Once validated, Slack will apply the discount to your workspace within three business days.

Unauthorized Use & Compliance

NOPI regularly monitors the use of our tax ID (EIN) and IRS determination letters across donated and discounted software programs and third-party platforms. Any project, organization, or individual using NOPI’s credentials without authorization may be reported, and legal action may be taken when appropriate.

If you have questions about accessing donated or discounted software, please contact us in advance. We are happy to help.
